David Rompani - Assistant Head of Service

David Rompani started learning the clarinet while at school in Croydon through free lessons provided by the council and attended the borough’s music centre before studying privately with Georgina Dobree and then going to Trinity College of Music, London where he gained a LTCL and FTCL.  While at Trinity College he studied clarinet with John Denman, Keith Puddy and John Stenhouse (bass clarinet), flute with Anne Cherry, piano accompaniment with Christine Croshaw and saxophone.

After leaving college he worked as a woodwind teacher for the ILEA, the London Borough of Bromley and the London Borough of Merton whilst teaching privately before joining the London Borough of Croydon’s team of tutors as a clarinet teacher in 1985, and gaining QTS in 1990.

As a member of the Croydon Music and Arts team he has managed, conducted and tutored in most of the service’s ensembles and music centres and is currently conducting the Croydon Youth Winds and supervising a team of specialist teachers.
