Young Producers & Youth Advocates

Young Producers

  • Age range: 16-25

  • Paid and volunteer roles

  • £100 per day for up to 20 days

During Croydon’s London Borough of Culture (LBOC) year we are launching a new Arts Council-funded Young Producers programme for 16 to 25 year olds who live, work or are educated in Croydon. The roles will cover heritage, architecture and exhibition projects as well as performance events. There are paid placements attracting a fee of £100 per day for up to 20 days, and shorter work experience opportunities where expenses will be paid.

To help young people learn more about different roles in the creative industries, with BirdGang we have created this series of videos.

We are using Digital Badges to provide Young Producers with evidence of their learning through the programme. Digital Badges recognise learning, achievement, and accomplishment outside of formal accredited learning and can be part of their CV.

Youth Advocates

  • Age range: 18-25

  • Paid role

  • £40 per session

As a Youth Advocate for Croydon Youth Arts Advisory Group YAAG, you will be asked to attend 4 sessions of the YAAG over the next year (paid £40 per session) and create a sector-wide event (for which you will be paid to plan and carry out) that helps the arts industry in Croydon to develop the way it engages with young people.

In these sessions you will take part in conversation and consultation with other young people and eventually organisations and freelancers who work in the arts sector in Croydon, providing insights into your experiences, questions and aspirations and collaborating with each other and the YAAG to action change in the year post London Borough of Culture. You will have opportunities to be in the room with key organisations in Croydon and consult with them on what you feel is needed to make the arts sector more accessible for young people. You will also be able to learn skills and gain experience in different strands of artistic practice and have opportunities to network with other young people and organisations in Croydon.

The YAAG Places young people in a position to be empowered and have input into the local arts sector and provides a platform for their voices, experience and expertise to be championed and heard by organisations that can make change.

  • Values young people for their time / respects the contribution of time and expertise and provides generous remuneration and shares skills.

  • Provides knowledge and signposting to various opportunities for experience, education and training in order to demystify the arts sector.
