For string players, wind players, keyboard players and guitarists.

After reaching Star 1 level children progress to Junior ensembles where they can progress to Star 3. They develop new instrumental skills and learn how to play in a group with other instruments.

Beyond Star 3 or grade 1 level, Guitarists and Keyboardists can join GuitarWorks and KeyWorks which meet at 10:00. Electric guitarists, keyboard players and drummers can also join the 11:15 RockWorks group. String players progress to Intermediate Strings then String Orchestra and wind and percussion players to Concert Band.

These groups are designed to complement lessons, not replace them.

For guitarists (electric or acoustic), keyboardists and drummers who have achieved Star 1 and are looking to hone their skills playing in a rock band.

Class 1.

This class is for disabled and neuro diverse young people ages 7-10 (in Years 3–6). The group will learn to create their own music using a variety of instruments, percussion, technology and voice. Developing musical skills will help to build confidence, n music using a variety of instruments, percussion, technol teamwork and develop social skills. Children will be able to progress to the 11.15 Access Music Makers group.

Star Classes are an affordable way for young beginners start learning to play an instrument.  Children learn the basics of playing their instrument in these fun and supportive group lessons and develop confidence through termly performances. Violin, cello, double bass, clarinet, flute, keyboard, guitar, trumpet, trombone, french horn, oboe and bassoon are the instruments that we offer. Click to find out more!

This is a course which runs from September to July to introduce children to the Oboe, Bassoon, Double Bass and French Horn. At the end of the year children can sign up to small group lessons and to a junior ensemble if they wish.

For acoustic/classical guitarists from grade 1/Star 3 standard and up. A group where young guitarists can hone their performance and ensemble skills and explore the possibilities of their instrument.

Recommended starting class for younger children Year 3 upwards who love to dance. Members of our 9am  and 9.15 groups are welcome to join this class.

For members of Concert Band and String Orchestra in 11:15am ensembles.

Members of the Instrument Clubs will experience performing in a smaller ensemble. Violin players will have the opportunity to learn the viola.

This is a group for members of our 9am, 9.15 groups and Intermediate Strings.

Children develop skills by learning a wide range of songs from across the world. VocalStars loves to collaborate with Rockworks.

Singers can join Chamber Choir when they have demonstrated the necessary skills for the more advanced group.

This group is for musicians gaining their first experiences of percussion. Students will learn how to use drum sticks correctly, play hand and tuned percussion instruments, create their own rhythms as well as learning to read notation. There will be opportunities to collaborate with other groups and progress to Junior Band and Concert Band.

Instruments could include snare drums, tambourines, cymbals, bass drums, glockenspiels, marimbas, djembes, congas and much more. Students will gain experience of playing with others in a group, as well as gaining individual instrument skills. It is a great starting point for anyone who would like to learn how to play the drum kit, or  instrumentalists wanting to improve their rhythm and timing.

Class 2.

This class is for disabled and neuro diverse young people ages 7-10 (in Years 3–6). The group will learn to create their own music using a variety of instruments, percussion, technology and voice. Children will be able to progress to the 11.15 Access Music Makers group.

For children in year 2.
Mini Music Maker sessions are an introduction to music making through singing, dancing and movement. Children will have the opportunity to have fun developing musical skills, knowledge and understanding in a practical multi-sensory way.

A fun introduction to dance for pupils in years 1 and 2 with a RAD trained dance teacher!
Children will learn a large range of dance styles and have the chance to take part in a relaxed performance at the end of each term.

Access Music Makers is for disabled and neuro diverse young people age 11+ (in Years 7 and above). The group creates their own music using a variety of percussion, voices and technology. The styles are eclectic, varying from pop songs to atmospheric soundscapes. Members’ interests and aspirations are used to develop musical skills alongside confidence, teamwork, social awareness and much more.

Students can progress from Access Music Makers to the Creative Music Makers class.

Recommended for wind and percussion players progressing from Junior Band

Concert Band is for musicians of Grade 2 – 5 standard, playing a wide variety of music including popular themes to TV, Film and Theatre, as well as traditional Concert Band music and exciting collaborative and fusion works. Team Spirit is a central part of Concert Band, which helps with our chemistry when performing together.

The next step up from Junior Rocks, RockWorks have a reputation for polished performances at CMA’s centre and external venues. Many former RockWorks students have gone on to study music at a high level and form their own bands. Electric guitarists, bassists, keyboardists, drummers and vocalists who are grade 1 or Star 3 level and above or who have graduated from Junior Rocks are welcome.

For string players who have reached Music Star 3 or Grade 1 standard, StringWorks is the next step after Star Workshop. We play a variety of different styles of music in 3 - 4 parts, and we encourage pupils to develop their musical knowledge with warm ups, quizzes and games

Recommended for string players progressing from Intermediate Strings.

For players of around Grade 3 – 5 standard String Orchestra covers a range of musical styles, from film and game music to baroque, classical and pop. The group performs regularly and enjoys collaborating with Concert Band to form a large orchestra.

For children in year 1.
